Day 1 - Arrive Halifax (2 nights)

Day 2 - Halifax sightseeing & at leisure
Originally settled by the British in 1749 as a counter-measure tothe French settlements in the area, Halifax quickly became one ofthe most important strategic outposts of the British Empire. Today,an appealing blend of new and old, Halifax remains the dynamic andcolorful center of Nova Scotia with its tree-lined streets, athriving traditional waterfront next to modern towers of glass andsteel, and many excellent restaurants, shops and attractions. Thismorning we explore several points of interest on our city tour,including a visit to the Citadel National Historic Site. Here welearn about daily life, hundreds of years ago, in this greathilltop fortress and take in the sweeping views over the city andharbor from its massive walls. The afternoon is yours to enjoy. Day 3 - Halifax - Sherbrooke Village - Baddeck (2 nights)
Leaving Halifax, we travel north along Nova Scotia''s eastern shoreto the Fisherman''s Life Museum, where we learn about the life of acoastal village family in the early 1900''s. Next we travel tohistoric Sherbrooke Village, a living museum depicting a late 19thcentury Nova Scotian village. Step right into the past at the woodturner shop, the blacksmith, the pottery shop, the villagecourthouse, a makeshift jail and the residences of both rich andpoor. Later we cross the Canso Causeway, built with over 10 milliontons of rock more than 50 years ago, to Cape Breton Island, one ofthe most beautiful and dramatic islands in North America. Travelingnorth we arrive in the little village of Baddeck on the shores ofcharming Bras d''Or Lake. (Full breakfast/ Dinner)Hotel: Silver Dart Lodge
Day 4 - Cape Breton Highlands National Park & Cabot Trailexcursion
This morning we visit the Alexander Graham Bell National HistoricSite, where many of the great inventor''s personal artifacts andmementos are on display. We then journey along the dramatic CabotTrail, pausing along the way to visit quaint Margaree Harbour onthe west coast, before rising high into Cape Breton HighlandNational Park at the northern end of the island. Mile afterstunning mile, the Cabot Trail offers up an amazing coastline withjagged peaks rising out of the sea, deep-walled canyons, sandybeaches, majestic cliffs and abundant wildlife. This is a landscapeyou just have to experience! We return to Baddeck in the lateafternoon. (Full breakfast)
Day 5 - Baddeck - Wood Island Ferry - Charlottetown (2 nights)
Today our Tour Director will reveal a Hidden Treasure. Leaving CapeBreton, we re-cross the Canso Strait and journey to the quaintfishing town of Pictou. We cross the Northumberland Strait by ferryto Prince Edward Island, Canada''s smallest and greenest province.We then travel through the vivid colors of its gently rollinglandscape to Charlottetown. Day 6 - Prince Edward Island sightseeing & at leisure
Today we are joined by a local guide and start our exploration ofPrince Edward Island. We stop in the little bayside village ofNorth Rustico on the north shore for a look at the quaint littlered and white Harbour Lighthouse. We then explore the spectacularshoreline of Prince Edward Island National Park with its beautifulred sandstone cliffs, miles of sandy beaches and abundant wildlife.In Cavendish, we visit Green Gables, the storybook home of LucyMaud Montgomery''s Anne of Green Gables. The author grew up onPrince Edward Island and drew on her childhood experiences todescribe the wonderful pastoral world of her bestselling novel. Theremainder of the day is at leisure in Charlottetown. This eveningwhy not attend an optional performance of the popular musical Anneof Green Gables? (Full breakfast)
Day 7 - Charlottetown - Shediac Bay - Moncton
Today we travel to New Brunswick via the 8-mile long engineeringmarvel of the Confederation Bridge, the longest in the worldcrossing ice-covered water. Like the other provinces on our tour,New Brunswick was settled by groups of people from both France andGreat Britain, and this shared heritage is reflected today in thefact that it is the only officially bilingual province in Canada.We stop at Shediac Bay where we join a private lobster HighlightLunch cruise exclusive to our group. Our local lobster fishermencrew will tell us about this traditional delicacy and the methodsused in lobstering while enjoying an onboard lobster lunch preparedin the traditional New Brunswick way (weather permitting). Next, wevisit a local winery and enjoy tasting various fruit wines producedlocally. Tonight we enjoy a Farewell Dinner celebrating our greatjourney through the Canadian Maritimes. Day 8 - Moncton - Hopewell Rocks - Depart Halifax
This morning we travel south to the Bay of Fundy to see the effectsof some of the highest tides in the world. The peculiarly shapedHopewell Rocks reach up to 50 feet in height; learn from ourinterpretive guide about this group of amazing "flowerpot" rockformations sculpted by billions of gallons of water flowing in andout of the bay twice a day. Then bid farewell to your Tour Directoras you embark on an independent rail journey back to Halifax, wherea complimentary transfer is provided to Halifax InternationalAirport or to the tour hotel in Halifax for passengers extendingtheir stay. When travelling alone, we understand that some clients do not want to incur the expense of an additional single room supplement. With this in mind, on the majority of our itineraries, Trafalgar offers you the opportunity to purchase these tours on a room-sharing basis. We will accommodate you with a fellow passenger of the same gender on a ‘two-bedded’ basis (non-smoking rooms only). Please note that, regrettably, we cannot guarantee that room mates will be of a similar age group. Even so, it is an enjoyable way to travel and get to make new friends, and a positive way to stretch your holiday budget. If we fail to match you, we will provide a single room at no extra cost.
